Native Spirituality?
02.06.05 (1:36 pm)
I've had many comments over the years from visitors to the Spirit Circle website that they've been looking for "native spirituality" and have found it here.

I'm so glad that the content of our website touches the hearts of so many. Indeed, sharing from the heart-space is the foundation on which we can build a more tolerant, gentle, peaceful planet.

However, I have to confess, it's always kinda awkward because I'm not sure I even know what native spirituality is.

In response, I've done the best that I know - I've made an effort to encourage seekers to contact the band directly if they're interested in a particular band's traditions and views.

A common response is, "No, I don't want to do that. It's just that I have always loved the Native American spirituality and feel like it's a part of me. Like on this website..." and they send me a link to a webpage filled with art of women seductively posed with wolves and eagles faded into the background.

Now, please don't get me wrong - this is not criticism of anyone's work. I adore creativity, especially when it comes from the heart, spirit and soul of the artist. Most of this art is extremely enchanting and absolutely beautiful in itself, from the images created to the websites that house them.

I am just not understanding how these are representative of spirituality, is all. It hasn't been in my experience with the Native people I've known, learned from, and been close to. I'm thankful to have had the great fortune to learn just a miniscule bit about their native cultures directly from a few people in certain tribes, and nowhere have I found anything like the 'glam native' portrayal that I have seen on these websites. So, you can imagine my confusion when people speak to me about native spirituality.

Perhaps the designs on our Soul Decks are the reason they are attractive to the native spirituality seekers, I don't know. Those designs came from my heart just as any other art does, but it was not with any specific culture in mind. They are simply representative of my own journey at the time I designed them - native ancestry or not.

Our products have been created to be culturally sensitive to anyone of any race or religion who wishes to have them in their own lives. From our hearts to yours, no matter which road you choose.

As I was surfing the net one day, I came across the website at this link. It's with great gratitude to all those who are looking for native spirituality that I offer this link of intelligent explanation, in a more eloquent way than I'm able to express. It may help you in your search for whatever it is you're seeking.

Wishing each of you much warmth and peace in your journey.
